Introducing Manual Lymphatic Drainage at Vega Massage

I'm excited to share something new that's coming to Vega Massage.

Over the past several months, I've been training in Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) using the Vodder Method, a specialized technique that focuses on supporting one of the body's most important, yet often overlooked, systems: the lymphatic system.

Beginning soon, I'll be offering full 60 and 90-minute Manual Lymphatic Drainage sessions. I'll also be able to incorporate MLD into massage sessions when it's appropriate for your goals and needs.

If you've never heard of MLD before, you're not alone. Most people are familiar with the circulatory system because we can feel our heartbeat. The lymphatic system quietly works behind the scenes every day, so many people don't realize just how important it is.

Your Body's Housekeeping System

I like to think of the lymphatic system as your body's housekeeping crew.

Imagine your home after a busy week. Even if everything is functioning well, dust collects, laundry piles up, and clutter starts to appear. Nothing is necessarily broken, but the house feels better after everything has been cleaned up and put back in its place.

Your body works in a similar way.

Every day, fluid naturally moves from your bloodstream into your tissues to deliver oxygen and nutrients to your cells. After those nutrients are delivered, some of that fluid needs to be collected and returned to your circulation.

That's one of the primary jobs of your lymphatic system.

It also plays an important role in supporting your immune system and maintaining healthy fluid balance throughout the body.

Unlike your heart, which continuously pumps blood, the lymphatic system doesn't have its own pump. Instead, it relies on normal body movement, breathing, and the natural contraction of lymphatic vessels to keep fluid moving.

So, What Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, hands-on technique designed to encourage the natural movement of lymph fluid.

One of the biggest surprises for first-time clients is just how light the pressure is.

Unlike traditional massage, MLD isn't designed to work deeply into muscles. The lymphatic vessels are located just beneath the skin, so a very gentle touch is actually the most effective way to influence the lymphatic system.

Many people describe the treatment as deeply calming. The slow, rhythmic movements often help quiet the nervous system, making it easy to completely relax.

How Is It Different From Massage?

Traditional massage focuses on muscles, connective tissue, and joints. It uses techniques like kneading, compression, stretching, and gliding strokes to relieve muscle tension and improve movement.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage has a different purpose.

Instead of focusing on muscles, it supports the movement of lymph fluid through the lymphatic system using precise, gentle techniques.

Think of it this way:

Massage helps the muscles feel and move better.

MLD helps support your body's natural fluid movement.

They're different treatments, but they complement each other beautifully.

Why Am I Adding MLD?

One of the things I love most about massage therapy is that there are always opportunities to learn new ways to help people feel better.

As I've continued my education, I became fascinated by how much the lymphatic system contributes to our overall well-being. I wanted to add another tool that could benefit clients dealing with concerns like seasonal allergies, sinus congestion, mild swelling, headaches, stress, fatigue, or simply looking for a deeply relaxing experience.

In many cases, MLD can also be blended into a massage session when it makes sense for your treatment goals.
